800 graduate at Limkokwing

MASERU – LIMKOKWING University of Creative Technology (LUCT) has graduated 815 students from different fields of study on Thursday last week.

Addressing the graduates, the Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Cedri Bell said they will not only be “worthy representatives of this university and their families but also of this country”.

“This is something that needs to be celebrated,” Bell said.

He said the graduates should not forget to appreciate and thank their parents, family and loved ones who have given them the support they needed during their period at the university.

“You have become role models to those younger than you and to the elders who have put their trust in that you will carry the name of your people with pride,” he said.

“This is to bring out the best in students and give them the confidence, experience and empowerment they need to successfully make the transition from university to the world of work.”

The Minister of Education, Dr Mahali Phamotse said she is proud to announce that Limkokwing University is the first university to be invited by King Letsie III to come and establish its campus in the country.

She said the university has been a loyal partner of the government and applauded how it has contributed to the betterment of the economy of Lesotho by producing “the finest world standard creative individuals who create jobs instead of being employed”.

She said the varsity has enabled Basotho to gain globally recognized qualifications and is also bridging the mismatch of the institutional skills and industry requirements.

“The university, through its presence, has changed the tertiary education in the country by offering unique and refreshing approach to education which are industry centric with an emphasis on being job creators and not seekers,” Phamotse said.

Speaking on behalf of the students, Thato Tšiu said thanked the university for the vast amount of skills it has equipped them with.

Tšiu said the skills will help them to provide jobs for other people.

“We are a part of the building blocks in a fast moving global economy and with the challenges faced by the country in poverty and unemployment, we are taking it upon ourselves to be part of the solutions to these challenges,” Tšiu said.

The university’s advisory panel member Sam Mphana said graduates were industry-ready and equipped to play the role in propelling Lesotho to become a regional and global competitor.
