Alliance hands over equipment to police

MASERU – ALLIANCE Insurance Company on Monday handed over some equipment to the police to ensure smooth traffic flow in Maseru.
The equipment included reflector jackets for traffic marshals, raincoats and cones.

Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Mpota Nthako said the reflectors will help ensure that traffic police officers are clearly visible. “Alliance provided 130 reflectors and raincoats respectively to High-Way patrol, Maputsoe and Urban,” Nthako said.

The equipment was procured with assistance from the Lesotho Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).
Alliance Insurance Head of Marketing, Liepollo Tsekoa, said what matters most is the impact value that their company plays as part of giving back to the community and this comes because Alliance is celebrating 25 years of existence in the country.

“We have also provided cones for when one lane is being used. The impact value of this gesture is immeasurable” she said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Keketso Monaheng in his acceptance speech appealed to business owners to be involved with LCCI so that they can gain what LMPS gained.
He said it is important that police officers look presentable and dignified and by so doing the services they provide will be dignified.
“The image of the police service will also be appreciated,” Monaheng said.

Monaheng urged police officers to do their best to reduce crime. He further said police will be deployed where there are high rates of congestion and it is their constitutional mandate to protect the public and their businesses.

“Traffic congestion affects the economy of the country because people tend to arrive late or leave early at work in order to avoid traffic,” Monaheng said.
In addition, Nthako said the plan is to accommodate all the districts and therefore encouraged other affiliates to come forth especially now that Alliance has started.
The president of LCCI, Ntaote Seboka, said if only Basotho could fight crime, and abide by the laws then the economy of the country would grow.
