Bank launches digital platforms

MASERU – LESOTHO Post Bank last Thursday launched its digital platforms that will allow clients to access banking services easily.
The digital platforms will help clients avoid long queues for basic transactions like money transfers.
Lesotho Post Bank clients will now be able to transfer cash, make payments and check account balances at their own convenience.
The platforms will also see the bank offering more services such as payment of bills, utilities and airtime top-up.

Speaking at the launch, the bank’s chairman Lefa Mokotjo said the bank has no interest in “playing politics”.
Mokotjo pleaded with the Minister of Communication Thesele ’Maseribane to protect the bank against any political vendetta.
“We are not playing politics hence we ask you to protect the bank,” Mokotjo said.

He said their main mandate is to deliver first class services across the country catering for all Basotho both literate and illiterate.
Mokotjo said the bank has 18 ATM machines across the country.

The Lesotho Post Bank Managing Director, Molefi Leqhaoe, said management had realised since the bank’s establishment in 2004 that it was lagging behind in terms of technology.
“In 2017 the bank went extra mile mainly digitalising the bank for higher competitiveness hence we now have mobile banking, internet banking and merchant banking,” Leqhaoe said.
Asked why they are only starting now yet they have been operating since 2004, Leqhaoe said they were waiting for all the banks to bring the best technology so that they could learn from them and come up with the very best technology for Basotho.

“This one is more advanced than all the technology that has been seen in the country, it has lower cost than all,” he said.
“Our dream is for every Mosotho to have a platform to access affordable banking services,” he added.
“We are heading for urgency banking very soon.”

In his remarks Minister ’Maseribane said the government had invested a huge amount of money in making sure the project was delivered on time.
“To support key technology is to achieve SDG goals,” ’Maseribane said.
“We are striving to eliminate tribulations and unemployment to encourage young entrepreneurs to venture into business,” he said.
“We suggest that Chinese citizens doing business in the country should open bank accounts at Lesotho Post Bank.”
