MASERU – A Standard Lesotho Bank employee, Kamohelo Matšoha, appeared before the Maseru Magistrate’s Court on Friday charged with fraud.
Matšoha, according to the charge sheet, stole more than M1 million from Standard Lesotho Bank and deposited it into his own business accounts.
Magistrate ’Mamorojele Qoo, granted Matšoha bail of M10 000 under conditions that he should find provide surety in the form of property worth M100 000.
Matšoha was also ordered to stand trial to finality and not interfere with crown witnesses or investigations.
The crown alleges that between January and September 2020 at the Standard Lesotho Bank in Maseru, Matšoha was an employee in the Department of International Business Centre.
The crown says Matšoha, acting within the scope of his employment or duties, “unlawfully and deliberately misrepresented” to Standard Lesotho Bank that M201 565 had been debited from one account in favour of Makenzo Construction, a company that he owned.
He is also accused of fraudulently debiting M932 547’s into his bank account and another of his company called Cyphertch Company.
“As a result of such misrepresentation, (Matšoha)’s companies were credited with the sum of M1.1 million which the bank lost,” the court heard.
Matšoha, the charge sheet says, failed to reveal that his companies did not do business with Standard Lesotho Bank hence he faces charges of fraud”.
He will appear again in court on July 30, 2022 for remand.
