BAP fights for IEC commissioners probe

MASERU – BASOTHO Action Party BAP demands an establishment of a tribunal to probe the IEC commissioners.
The party has written a letter through the legal represention Rasekoai chambers to the state council on Monday.

They wrote that the IEC commissioners have failed to carry out their duty as encrypted in section 195 of the national assembly act.

They added that the IEC promulgate with issues such as regulatory compliance of the parties.

“Regulatory compliance of political parties with issues which have to do with enforcement of auxiliary laws which bind them as voluntary organizations”.

They added that the IEC to date does not have a properly structured and organized register of political parties which explains and articulates the compliance record of each party.

They also wrote that the IEC does not have a party structure register which articulates a comprehensive data of paid up membership.

” There is no register of parties open for members of the public as espoused in section 29″.

They continued to write that the commissioners are not leading the institution as an efficient Electoral management body,” and for that reason their competance or fitness to hold the office must be probe or interrogated”.
