Break in at minister’s office

MASERU – THERE was a break-in at Deputy Minister of Public Works Mokherane Tsatsanyane’s office on Tuesday night.
The burglars also broke into principal secretary, Mothabathe Hlalele’s office.

Police spokesperson Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli confirmed the incident to thepost last night but said he could not give further details.
Neither Tsatsanyane nor Hlalele could be reached for comment at the time of going to press.
But the Ministry Public Works, Prince Maliehe, confirmed the break in.

Maliehe said preliminary investigations have revealed that a laptop was stolen from Hlalele’s office.
He said a safe in the same office was vandalized but not opened.
“The safe is still intact. It is a big safe but was never broken into because of its hard structure,” Maliehe said.
He said it appeared that a grinder was used to try to open the safe.

Maliehe said nothing was taken from Tsatsanyane’s but “some were destroyed”.
The minister said they are yet to check the CCTV camera in at the office or guards who were on duty that night.

The break-in has a striking resemblance to the one that happened at the Ministry of Mines two weeks ago. At the Ministry of Mines a grinder was used to open a safe containing documents and diamonds.
The police said it appeared that no diamonds were stolen.
