MASERU – POLICE Commissioner Holomo Molibeli has dismissed a constable for allegedly receiving bribe at a roadblock.
In a memo seen by thepost, it is said Police Constable Duma with employment number 55831/29719 “on or around the 13th July this year along Main North 1, a public road at Ha Rampai in Butha-Buthe while on Police duties, had taken a bribe from the member of the public”.
The announcement was issued this afternoon, saying PC Rampai’s dismissal was on September 30.
A video of the dismissed police officer taking the bribe from the South African tourist made rounds on social media.
This act angered the Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC), saying it is likely to frustrate the tourists from visiting Lesotho.
It was only two weeks back when two police officers were also seen on the video accepting bribery from the 4+1 drivers.
The police management made a statement that it was aware of the video where the police officers were accepting the bribe.
The management said the necessary steps would be taken against those police officers.
The memo further said the Commissioner of Police has declared zero tolerance to corrupt police officers and therefore all police officers are warned against their conduct which is likely to bring this organisation into disrepute and all are expected to display the highest standard of discipline.
