Econet rewards EcoCash agents

MASERU – ECONET rewarded some of its best performing EcoCash agents yesterday. The fourteen agents shared M30 000.

The ETL says this shows it is striving to empower young entrepreneurs through EcoCash spache-fono to create jobs in the country.
The ETL Sales Distribution Manager, ’Matikoe Letsie, said they started this competition in June this year.

And it is scheduled to end in March next year when the best performer will win a 4×4 Toyota Hilux single cab worth M280 000 as a grand prize.
Letsie said this competition was introduced to enhance not only the growth of the company but more specifically for their EcoCash agents.

Their main concern was to move the money even to those far places.
Letsie said they realised there is high unemployment rate in the country.
She said they then came up with this initiative to help young entrepreneurs to boost their business through EcoCash.

“If the customer has come for EcoCash services in their shop, the customers might be tempted to buy other stuff since he or she is already in the shop,” she said.

Letsie said even the commission that the agents receive from offering EcoCash services can also help the entrepreneurs from running out of cash to buy stock.

She said if Basotho businesses experience growth through ecoCash service, this mean jobs can be created too. Letsie said criterion used to enter the draw is based on the number of ’cash-ins’ and transactions agents make per month from which an agent who has generated the highest growth wins.

“This competition motivates new and existing EcoCash agents as they look forward to providing EcoCash services to customers while increasing their chances of winning,” she said.

Letsie said their EcoCash agent base growth has grown by 41 percent since the introduction of the competition.

She further said they want to help the street vendors to be the sub agents so that the commission that they will earn through offering EcoCash services can boost their businesses too.

ETL Public Relations Manager Puleng Litabe explained that the agents from each and every district compete.
“Ever since the competition started everyone is pushing to be the agent,” she said.

Litabe said this makes them so proud when people create jobs for themselves than waiting to be hired. She said it is not too late to register for being an EcoCash agent since the competition is in progress.

She said this registration can either be sub-agents, agents and super-agents whereby sub-agents can register from as little as M500 cash to start providing the services to customers.

The sub-agent registration requires trade’s license, tax clearance certificate, identity document and the capital of M30 000 to serve other agents.
One of the winners Thapelo Molete from infotime Maseru said this competition has helped them so much to improve their EcoCash services.
He said they realised that EcoCash is helping them to generate more income for their business.

Molete urged other agents to increase their paces in serving the customers and they should not let the customers go without being offered the services.
“The more customers go without being served, the more we lose money,’’ he said.
