MASERU – Thabo Thakalekoala, who was the spokesman of former Prime Minister Thomas Thabane, has landed a plum post at the Johannesburg Consulate. Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Colonel Tanki Mothae confirmed the development this week. Colonel Mothae declined to disclose Thakalekoala’s new position at the foreign mission.   “I can only confirm that he is going to be deployed in South Africa,” Col Mothae said. He said they do not usually disclose positions of people they attach to foreign missions. Col Mothae said Thakalekoala could have left with other envoys but remained behind because of some logistical issues that were being addressed. He said Thakalekoala is not replacing the diplomats who were recalled because of flouting South African laws over alcohol. He said the government is yet to decide what to do with the recalled diplomats. Asked about his new appointment yesterday, Thakalekoala flatly denied knowing anything regarding the appointment. He said he has only seen it on social media platforms. “May it still come to me,” he said. Thakalekoala was promoted to the position of Senior Private Secretary to the former Prime Minister Thabane. A radio presenter Relebohile Moyeye took over his position as the press attaché to the former Prime Minister Thomas Thabane. Thabane was forced to step down and was replaced by Dr Moeketsi Majoro in May last year. Then Moyeye also left as Dr Majoro also brought his own press attaché Buda Moseme. While still the Private Secretary to the Prime Minister, Thakalekoala was locked in a tense standoff with Lefu Manyokole who was the principal cabinet secretary. He was deprived of the car he was using and was later booted out of that office. He has been without a government job since then. Majara Molupe
