LCS to pounce on ex-Kick4Life players

MASERU – Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS) could become the main benefactors of Kick4Life’s demise with the club confirming that five former Kick4Life players are training with ‘Masheshena’.

Kick4Life announced they are selling their Vodacom Premier League status last month after being in the top-flight since 2014. The surprising decision has left a number of high-end premiership players looking for new homes and LCS appear set to pounce.

Speaking to thepost on Tuesday, LCS spokesperson Kofa Rantai said the five players training at the club are being assessed by head coach Shalane Lehohla. Should they impress, they will be registered and unveiled alongside LCS’s other signings for the 2022/23 season.

Rantai refused to reveal the trialists’ names but it is now public knowledge that the highly-rated youngster Teboho Montlha, who impressed last season, is one of the players training with the LCS.

Because all five players are free agents, they are in possession of their clearances from Kick4Life and are free to join any team of their choice.

Rantai said once all parties are happy, the LCS will register the players on the new FIFA Connect Programme which tracks players and provides a unique FIFA ID code for every individual who has a role at a football club.

“I cannot say they are LCS players yet, once we are able to register the players into the FIFA Connect then we will say that,” Rantai said.

“I cannot say their names but we have five players from Kick4Life training with us now and I know you may have seen them already,” he added.

Rantai said Lehohla is looking to add 10 players to his squad ahead of the new season and the number could increase if the LCS coach sees a need. A number of the new signings will come from the trialists at the club.

“We have trials going on, there are players that the coach is having a look at to see if they have what it takes to be part of this team,” Rantai said.

“We did try to speak with Kick4Life but we had to hold off because, as you know, the club is being sold.”

The transaction to sell Kick4Life is not yet officially complete but it is still expected to go through. After announcing their Vodacom Premiership sale, Kick4Life said they would now focus on the club’s junior and women’s teams.
Starting from next season, Kick4Life’s men’s side will compete in the country’s third tier league, the B-Division.
