MASERU – Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) Ladies have continued their dominance of local women’s football by sealing the Women’s Super League (WSL) title with three games to spare.
LDF have been relentless once more this term and have won all 15 league games this season, scoring 100 goals in the process and only conceding twice to collect a perfect haul of 45 points.
The second placed team is Kick4Life Ladies with 36 points and, with three games to go, Kick4Life can only reach a maximum of 45 points.
It means that even if LDF lose their three remaining games, the army ladies’ superior far goal difference of plus-98 compared to Kick4Life’s plus-48 has sealed the deal.
LDF’s supremacy this season has been a mix of style and ruthlessness, and it does not look like they have plans to take the foot off the pedal.
LDF have their sights on finishing the season with a perfect record which has never been done before.
That would put an exclamation mark on their utter dominance of the league which they have now won four times in a row.
In fact, the only time LDF have not win any league since it was formed in 2015 was in 2017 when FC Stoko claimed the title.
With their status as Lesotho best women’s club again confirmed, the only question for LDF is if they will be able to test themselves against the region’s best clubs in the COSAFA Women’s Champions League, the international women’s football competition that was launched by COSAFA in 2021 to serve as the Southern African qualification tournament for the CAF Women’s Champions League.
In 2021, LDF were enrolled in the maiden competition.
At the time, LDF were one of seven teams in the COSAFA Women’s Champions League with Double Actions Ladies, Manzini Wanderers, Tura Magic, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, Green Buffaloes, Black Rhinos Queens in a tournament that was held in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
LDF were grouped with Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies who thrashed them 6–0 in the opening game.
In the second game, they played to a 1-1 draw with Eswatini Manzini Wanderers before being knocked out by Botswana Double Action Ladies 6-0 in the third game.
However, last year the Lesotho Football Association (LEFA) did not enroll LDF in the tournament and it is unclear if LEFA have plans to send the champions back to compete with the best teams in the COSAFA region this year.
