LNBS workers fired

MASERU – ABOUT 70 Lesotho National Broadcasting Service (LNBS) contracted employees have been booted out today.

They were informed of the developments by the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology Lira Moeti together with the Human Resource Manager.

Their contractors were supposed to come to an end in April this year.

But the Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology has decided to terminate them prematurely.

They were given a three- year contract at the ministry.

Moeti said those employees were not legally employed because their engagement did not follow proper procedures.

“They were not employed through the Public Service Commission as required by the law,” he said.

He said those employees were employed directly by the Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology.

He said the government did not know that it had these people hired.

Moeti said there was an influx of these people in April 2021.

And some did not even have qualifications for the work they were doing.

“It was such a mess,” Moeti said.

These employees were given letters of termination of appointment this afternoon dated 14 March 2023.

“A person could only be given a maximum of six months contract. But these ones have been given three years,” he said.

“This is wrong on all fronts because it is against the law.”
