MASERU – Lesotho women’s national team striker Litšeoane Maloro is confident of a good showing at the upcoming COSAFA Women’s Championship set for Gqeberha, South Africa, from August 31 to September 11.

Mehalalitoe, as the Lesotho women’s team is affectionately known, will start their campaign next week Thursday against Eswatini in Group B, which also has Zambia and Namibia.

Maloro believes Zambia’s Copper Queens, who finished third at the recent Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, will be the team to beat in their group.

“I think it’s a very fair group when I compare it with the previous tournaments and Zambia, for me, will be the biggest challenge for us in our pool,” Maloro said.

“They have always had the upper hand in our previous encounters, but with Eswatini and Namibia, it was the opposite and I have no doubt that we will give them a run for their money.”

The 26-year-old former Bloemfontein Celtic striker will be expected to play a key role for Lesotho alongside Mosili Motšoeneng and Boitumelo Rabele who ply their trade in South Africa for Royal AM and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively.

“I believe that we have had very good preparations which started well on time and will play a very important role in us performing well at the tournament,” the forward said.

“The ball is now in our court as players to implement all that we have learnt in the field of play because we want to make our country proud at the tournament,” Maloro said.

“All the players are in high spirits and looking forward to the tournament.”
