QACHA’S NEKA- A man accused of stuffing hot chilli into his wife’s vagina, the 26-year-old Relebohile Letele of Qacha’s Nek, has died.
Letele, who was allegedly battered by the angry villagers who responded to his wife’s cries of help, died at the Queen ’Mamohato Memorial Hospital on weekend.
His village’s Chief Maseru Mosothoane says the cause of death is not known yet.
The wife was admitted at the Qacha’s Nek hospital after her ordeal last week.
She has since been discharged from the hospital.
Letele was supposed to appear before the Qacha’s Nek magistrate’s court today.
Letele, also known as Khampoto (Big Pot), suspected that his wife was in a love affair with his friend.
Letele, Chief Mosothoane said, stalked the wife when he went to the village well to fetch water where he saw her with the suspected friend.
“He didn’t say anything to them,” Chief Mosothoane said.
He said after that Letele severely beat his wife, while choking her with a plastic bag, fastening her legs and his hands, and he also closed her mouth with a masking tape.
“Then he poured peri-peri spice into her private part,” the chief said.
He said Letele then locked the wife and children in the house and left.
“The woman got help from a neighbour whose children she was babysitting at Letele’s place,” he said.
