MASERU – ONE of the two people who drowned when their car veered and plunged into the Maqalika Dam on Sunday morning has been identified as a Masowe III resident.
The woman, Reitumetse Mokhethi, 28, has been identified by her family after the police called on the public to go to the Lesotho Funeral Services mortuary to identify the corpses.
Her cousin, Mohau Mokhethi, told thepost last night the woman was married but was not staying with her husband.
She leaves her four-year-old daughter.
“It is sad that her life was cut this short,” Mokhethi said.
The man she was travelling with had not yet been identified at the time of writing this story.
He is believed to be aged between 25 and 35 years.
Police’ Special Operation Unit (SOU) pulled the two bodies out of the Maqalika Dam early in the morning on Sunday.
The deceased were travelling in a white D4D when the incident happened.
Police said the car veered off the road and fell into the dam.
Senior Inspector Letsielo Mabitle of the police diving department said they believed the driver might have gotten exhausted while driving and lost control of the car.
He said they also believe that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
The man was putting on a pair of blue jeans with a white skipper and white takkies.
He is light in complexion and short in height.
Snr Insp Mabitle appealed to the public to help trace relatives of the deceased.
“Those who could know them should inform the nearest police station,” he said.
