Metropolitan, ETL strike deal

MASERU – EACH month thousands of Basotho would travel to the nearest Metropolitan Lesotho office to pay their insurance premiums.

Sometimes they would have to stand in long queues before they were served.

That is now set to change, thanks to a deal Metropolitan Lesotho signed this week with Econet Telecom Lesotho.

The agreement will see Metropolitan Lesotho clients paying for their insurance policies using Eco-cash, a mobile money transfer platform.

The General Manager of Econet Telecom Lesotho, Motebang Moeketsi, said the new platform will allow Basotho to pay their insurance through Eco-cash.

The deal went into effect on Tuesday.

Moeketsi said this will widen the reach and entrench the use of Eco-cash among Basotho who have life insurance policies.

He said this service will continue to offer Basotho a reliable service to send and receive money as well as to make other payments.

Subscribers can now conduct transactions as well as make other payments “with the largest insurer in Lesotho”.

He said this collaboration will improve service delivery to Metropolitan clients and enhance the company’s standing as the number one life insurer in the country.

Moeketsi said clients will be able to pay for their funeral, investment and retirement policies wherever they are using their mobile phones.

He said Metropolitan is using technology to offer clients options that will save their money and time.

“Collaboration is a sign of growth and a determination to improve the lives of Basotho and increase the level of clients in our country within the corporate sector,” Moeketsi said.
