MASERU – A new model of Polo Vivo 2018 was launched in Bethlehem, South Africa a fortnight ago.
As it hits the market, it is expected to be one of the highest retailed vehicles.
The new Polo Vivo is based on the outgoing 5th-generation Polo and some of its features have now made its way into this latest model.
Features such as the TSI engine, driver aids and infotainment equipment mean that the Vivo is no longer a basic car.
There are three 4-cylinder petrol engines on offer, including a 1.0-litre.
This naturally-aspirated motor 3-cylinder engine is turbocharged.
Tiptronic auto is available in the 70 kW and 75 kW engine.
In the budget segment, safety is often overlooked, but this new Polo Vivo features ABS brakes, ultrasonic alarm sensor and remote control locking as a standard. Bethlehem VW sales manager, Ameen Sheik, said the top-of-the-range Vivo comes with new functions and betters designs.
“This is the fastest and highest retailed vehicle in the segmentation,” Sheik said.
The engines are said to be highly efficient too.
The new model uses 4.6 to 4.7 litres per 100km of fuel consumption – with blue motion technologies with stop/start.
The new monster tyres work via the ABS wheel speed sensor that sense when tyre pressure drops, it also applies the brakes to one or more wheels as required.
The other good feature is new driver assistance system with parallel park assist (In and Out), front and Rear Park distance control with manoeuvre assist, blind spot detection/ rear traffic alert and adaptive cruise control for future introduction.
