MASERU -ARMY commander Lieutenant General Mojalefa Letsoela has promoted Brigadier ’Matumelo Ramoqopo to the rank of major general.

General Ramoqopo is the first Lesotho woman to become a brigadier and now a major general.

She was promoted today at the army headquarters, Ratjomose Barracks, where the commander said she has been promoted through the military and academic merits.

“Unlike other years, I consider this as a special occasion because, in the history of the LDF, she is the first woman to be a major general,” Lt Gen Letsoela said.

He said Maj Gen Ramoqopo worked hard under different situations.

He said the army is a unique environment, “but it has its own ways that must be followed”.

“You are hereby to carefully discharge your duties in the rank of major general or some ranks that you will be promoted to,” he told her.

The rank above that of major general is the lieutenant general, which is the top most in the Lesotho army.

He commanded her to be obeyed by all the soldiers in the army.

“You also observe orders and directives as from time to time you shall receive from me or any of your superiors in pursuance of trust imposed in you,” he said.
