Vodacom launches new app



MASERU – MOBILE telecommunications giant, Vodacom Lesotho, yesterday launched a new mobile application, My Vodacom Lesotho App.
The app, deemed a game changer, will take away the frustration of going through several steps for a simple transaction.
According to the Managing Executive, Rashid Tar-Mahomed, the app is an answer to the countless requests from Vodacom Lesotho users to have an app with high functionality, speed, convenience and with minimum costs.

Tar-Mahomed said the introduction of the app is another way in which the company brings itself closer to the customer and make their products and services more accessible.

He said they “tackle one of the most critical needs for customers, the need to have a seamless, reliable and convenient access to all their Vodacom Lesotho services and help, immediately when they need it, wherever they are”.
The app is said to be for free and does not consume data once downloaded.

“With the app our customers will have their account balances and usage right on the home screen when they open it and this will go a long way in ensuring that they do not overspend and can purchase additional data, minutes or SMS bundles just at the click of a button,” Tar-Mahomed said.
He said the company is committed to ensuring that Basotho have access to world class technology and services with every product they introduce.
“The world is changing, people are hungry for information and they want it quickly and easily,” he said.

“This is also information about their phone accounts, their usage and how they are able to connect with others.”
Vodacom Lesotho has committed to giving customers who download the App and login during the month of March free 150Mb data as a way of compensating for the data consumed during the downloading process of the App.

Tšepo Maketela, Executive Head of Customer Operations, said users should expect a seamless experience with minimum glitches as it is easy on phones and the network.

He indicated that the journey to develop this app started last year. The app has been through several testing phases to ensure that it gives users the ultimate experience and is as user friendly as possible.

My Vodacom Lesotho App is available on both the Android and iPhone on the Play Store and App Store respectively.
Vodacom Lesotho customers will be able to download the app, input their mobile number, and receive a One Time Pin by SMS that will allow them to log into the app.

Once logged in transactions that used to take a number of steps on the *111# menu will now be performed with a few clicks.
Among other things the app allows its users to receive personalised offers based on the user’s usage and preferences, provide balance overviews for airtime, voice, SMS and data consumption on the home screen.

It also helps to retrieve your PUK number and allows seamless purchase of bundles for others regardless of whether they are on Prepaid, Postpaid or top up. “Previously, only those on prepaid were able to buy bundles for others and those on contract were not able to do so,” Mpho Brown, the Communication Manager, said.

However, the app does not feature M-pesa services. “There will be several additions and enhancements as time goes on and M-pesa is among features that will be introduced later,” Maketela said.
