MASERU – LESOTHO Electricity Company (LEC) boss Mohato Seleke sayshe has reconnected electricity to the Water and Sewarage Company (WASCO) after parliament’s intervention today.
LEC and WASCO held a crunch meeting with the parliamentary Natural Resources Committee in reaction to the public outcry because of absence of water.
In all places supplied with water by the WASCO countrywide there was no water starting from last night.
Seleke said he is not sure when water will be available for Basotho, “but, we have reconnected the electricity”.
A member of the Natural Resources portfolio committee, Thabo Maretlane, said the LEC should be asked how they made a decision to close the entire country without consulting stakeholders.
“Where does he take power from?” Maretlane said, referring to Seleke.
“To whom is he accountable?”
Another member of the committee from Mekaling constituency, Thabiso Lekitla, asked who ordered the LEC to reconnect WASCO’s electricity this morning.
“We now know that the LEC cut electricity on its own,” Lekitla said.
Journalists were kicked out of the meeting during these exchanges.
